STEP 1: Gather Your Ingredients
Only two ingredients needed!
1. Frozen aronia berries from Sunny Lane Farm. Important: do not thaw! Berries must be Frozen when you dip them into the chocolate.
2. Ghirardelli 60% bittersweet chocolate chips. I recommend that you use this brand. I have tried others and the texture and flavor are not the same.Rough amounts needed to make 300 Chocolate-covered Aronia Berries:
1 18-ounce bag of aronia berries
2 10-ounce bags of chocolate chips
-
STEP 2: Melt the Chocolate
Pour about half the bag of chocolate chips into a bowl. One with nearly vertical sides works the best.
Microwave for 1 minute. Stir. Microwave about 1 minute more. Stir until smooth. Do not overheat. -
STEP 3: Dip the Aronia into the Chocolate
Spread a piece of waxed paper near your bowl of chocolate.
Drop 6 to 8 berries at a time into the melted chocolate being careful not to let the berries touch each other.
Using a fork and working quickly, roll one berry at a time until all surfaces are covered with chocolate. Push it toward the edge of the bowl, lift it out and quickly drop it on the waxed paper.
If the chocolate gets too thick to cover berries easily, return the bowl to the microwave for a few seconds.
Replenish chocolate chips as needed until you make the amount that you want. -
STEP 4: Store and Eat Your Treats!
Aronia berries are perishable, so they must be kept refrigerated or frozen.
The chocolate covered aronia will keep in the refrigerator for about one week. It will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
